Why did you want to develop your playground?

We were in need of a playground makeover as our old one was lacking inspiration and excitement. We wanted to develop a new outdoor space that would get our pupils passionate about outdoor play and would encourage them to spend more time exercising. We also wanted to have better options for free flow play so that we could move easily between the classroom and the playground.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

The team at Playforce are experts in their field and it’s evident that this is because of their history and experience of working with schools. The detail and innovation of their equipment really stood out to us and it was great to be able to see how other schools had benefited from playground developments similar to the one we had in mind. We were able to work closely with the team to create the perfect solution.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

We chose a variety of equipment that allows our pupils to develop their physical, behavioural and social skills. We have been incorporating the equipment into all aspects of the curriculum and trying to encourage the children to see the playground as an extension of the classroom. The Poddely set, in particular, makes this easy and approachable.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

Before our playground development, going outside at playtimes was more of a chore than a fun activity but now the children race to get out into the playground. They love the flexibility of the space and we’ve been really impressed by how much it has improved their creativity and motivation. We’re certain that the new playground is making them happier and healthier.

Can you share any best practice insights you have gained?

It can be difficult to know where to start when developing your playground so make sure you talk to the most important judges – the children. The team at Playforce showed us how important it is to have them on board for the decision making, they’re the ones using it after all.
