The brief at Trinity Richmond was to redevelop a tired, unused and unloved area of the school. It was completely overgrown, unsafe and inaccessible for the children.

The team at Trinity Richmond wanted to develop a safe environment that was specifically design for EYFS, the main priority for this area was to create a space that predominantly focused on encouraging physical play. The school wanted to do this by creating a designated space for the children to cycle, offer age appropriate climbing, balancing and traversing opportunities whilst also leaving room for the space to be flexible and changeable.

The proposed design and installation really hit the nail on the head in regards to fulfilling the brief and also offered much much more. We were able to create a dynamic space, that offered lots of focused physical outcomes in the form of climbing on the Forest Scrambler and traversing on the Wall Mounted Climbing Boards. The addition of Free Standing Balance Trail items also encourages lots of physical play, but in turn also allows the space to be changeable as the team at Trinity Richmond can reconfigure the trail and create different spaces as much as they please.

The use of a variety of different surfaces has also helped to create zoning in the area which has really made the space more manageable for everyone. The success of this project we believe really hinges on the fact we’ve enhanced and utilised the existing layout of the area, making existing features of the space important parts of the new design. Designing in this way has resulted in a fantastic new play area for the very best value. The school now have a space where children can play safely can let off steam and have access to a variety of different physical play options.
