Monkton Park Primary School, Wiltshire

The whole community helped Monkton Park Primary School fundraise for their fantastic new playground that allows the children to enjoy outdoor learning and educational play.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

At Monkton Park Primary School we aim to challenge our children through the creative curriculum and to provide a happy and caring environment where the pupils and staff do their best. We wanted to develop a playground that would encourage the children to enjoy and look after their environment and give them a wider range of resources to increase play value.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

Playforce provided us with invaluable advice when planning our playground. Their extensive experience meant that they knew exactly how to make the most of our school grounds and provide the best environment possible. They offer a very efficient service and the playground designs are attractive and innovative. Great value too.

The children look forward to heading outside and getting some exercise. The novelty of the new equipment still hasn’t worn off and all of our pupils enjoy working together to find unique ways to play.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

Our aim was to create more play zones so we developed an outdoor space that would have clearly defined areas. The Timber Trail encourages the children to be social and play interactively while the Rock and Roll Log tests out their physical abilities.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

The children look forward to heading outside and getting some exercise. The novelty of the new equipment still hasn’t worn off and all of our pupils enjoy working together to find unique ways to play. We’ve noticed a great improvement in social and physical skills and we are certain this will have a long lasting effect.

Can you share any best practice insights you’ve gained?

To ensure your pupils receive the best equipment possible, it is essential that the school takes part in some fundraising. We approached the school Governers and expressed how important we felt encouraging outdoor learning was. We were able to secure a fantastic addition to our budget and then went on to organise a number of great fundraising events that the whole school and community got involved with.
