Llanedeyrn Primary School, Glamorgan

Llanedeyrn Primary School are testing out their strength in their new playground development.
The children at Llandedeyrn Primary School are developing a fantastic range of physical skills thanks to their new outdoor space and equipment.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

Our outdoor space was previously lacking inspiration and fun. We wanted to develop a playground for our Key Stage One and Key Stage Two pupils so that they had a place where they could benefit from being outside and take part in educational play. We decided to incorporate a range of equipment into our development so that learning could be extended from the classroom.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

All of the equipment designed by Playforce is strong, durable and inspiring for the children. It blends in well with environmental surroundings but is still colourful and inviting. The team who planned our outdoor space worked well with us and the children to design the best playground possible.

Our children thoroughly enjoy using the Timber Trail and it increases their enjoyment, meaning time at play and lunchtimes is spent positively.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

We’ve designed our outdoor space to ensure that our pupils are developing a great range of physical skills while having lots of fun. The climbing wall and hanging rope are fantastic for developing upper body strength, while the Balance Weaver improves balancing skills.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

The playground equipment provided by Playforce has transformed our play area. Our children thoroughly enjoy using the Timber Trail and it increases their enjoyment, meaning time at play and lunchtimes is spent positively. The area provides an exciting opportunity for the children to work and play whilst engaging in physical activity.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?

Exercise isn’t something that children have to be tricked into, if you make it exciting and appealing they’ll be more than happy to take part. Incorporate a variety of equipment into your playground that tests their different muscles and, most importantly, make sure it’s fun!
