Why did you want to develop your playground?

We like to make sure that our pupils have access to a range of creative and imaginative activities. We were aware that free flow play was something that we could and should provide more availability to. We wanted to find equipment that would allow our pupils to move freely between the classroom and playground whilst taking part in activities that would develop a range of vital skills.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

We were previously aware of Playforce and have always liked the website and brochures. We looked at their Poddely sets online and saw examples of other schools using them as a solution in a way that we would want to. We spoke to the school grounds consultant who talked us through all of our options and helped us find the perfect combination for our environment. They were friendly and experienced, we never felt like they were trying to hard sell the products to us.

Our lessons are no longer based just in the classroom. We now have the option to take elements outside and this has helped boost the children’s motivation and creativity.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

It was easy to incorporate the Poddely set into our daily routine. The children were very excited to unpack the equipment and to start making new games and activities. Now that they’ve settled into the unpacking and tidying away process we are able to use it in a range of lessons as well as break times. We like to create hands-on experiments and demonstrations for the children alongside more fun activities like role-play and even storytelling.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

Our lessons are no longer based just in the classroom. We now have the option to take elements outside and this has helped boost the children’s motivation and creativity. They are more attentive and have a new, more positive attitude towards approaching something new. A bit of variety has made the school day more fun for everyone.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?

Now that we have the option to move freely between the classroom and playground, we can’t imagine doing it any other way. It helps staff plan more interactive lessons and encourages the children to be more creative and imaginative.
