Leamington Primary School, Nottinghamshire

In need of a new way to encourage free flow play at school, Leamington Primary wanted to find something that would turn the playground into an extension of the classroom.
Why did you want to develop your playground?
We wanted to provide the children with something that would allow them flexibility in the classroom and the playground. We wanted to find play equipment that could be taken anywhere, encourage creative thinking and be easy to pack away at the end of the school day.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?
Playforce offers something that, for us, was the perfect free flow play solution. The Poddely sets are flexible, intuitive and exciting. We spotted them in the Playforce brochure and knew that they would work well in our school. When we enquired about the sets, the team was friendly and experienced. They helped us choose the right combination for our school and gave us ideas about how to use it to deliver learning and play.

Having the opportunity to move lessons outdoors more regularly has motivated the children, they are inspired by their natural surroundings and this is reflected in their progress.
How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?
So far we haven’t found an element of the school day that isn’t made more interesting with the addition of the Poddely set. Dividing the set into two storage pods means that we can move them around easily and incorporate them into any lesson and activity. We encourage the children to think of ways we can use the set in class and at break times, they’ve had some fantastic ideas.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?
We’ve been very impressed with how the Poddely set has encouraged our pupils to be more creative and intuitive. Finding new ways to use the equipment requires some problem solving skills and their development of these skills has been a fast and exciting process. Having the opportunity to move lessons outdoors more regularly has motivated the children, they are inspired by their natural surroundings and this is reflected in their progress.
Can you share any practice insights you have gained?
The training session that Playforce offers alongside the Poddely set is a great way to make sure the staff knows all the ins and outs of the equipment. It means that we can give the pupils a starting point to work from and leave the rest up to them. We know how to put the set away as quickly as possible and have an efficient process to show the children how to clear up after themselves.
