Horton Grange Primary School

Outdoor play was awkward and unexciting at Horton Grange Primary School. They wanted to convert their playground into a space that made playing outside fun and easy. They tell us how their new development means they can now take part in daily outdoor play without the hassle.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

Our old playground was a blank space. The children loved being outside, but there was nothing exciting about the space that we offered them. We constantly had to drag equipment in and out, and it was difficult to set up and prepare for the daily outdoor session.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

We had quite a few ideas up our sleeves for our outdoor space. Playforce were able to provide all of the elements that we asked for, and within budget! It meant that we didn’t have to limit our ideas for the children or compromise any outdoor opportunities.

We love our new outdoor play equipment. The children and parents absolutely love it, too.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

We love our new outdoor play equipment. The children and parents absolutely love it, too. The children utilise the equipment every day and ask to play outside as soon as they come to school. It’s fantastic to see them so committed and excited to take part in outdoor play and learning. With the new range of equipment, we are able to introduce the outdoors to a range of daily activities both in lessons and in break times. It helps us assure that the children are getting their physical activity fix every day.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

The space and equipment is full of challenge for the children. We are finding that they are exploring it in a new way, every day. The Woodland Tower gives them lots of opportunities to test out their physical skills and the Woodland Cabins can be used as anything from lunchtime hideaways to castles and spaceships. Our new surfacing means the children can clamber around the playground and we don’t need to worry about them having a rough landing, it’s perfect for lots of active play.
