Bursar Adele Mann explains how new Playforce playground equipment has opened up a wealth of new opportunities for outdoor learning for KS1 children.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

We wanted to offer outside facilities to our KS1 children, who up until now had limited resources for learning outside the classroom.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

We had used Playforce before and were happy with the quality of workmanship and service and so we saw no reason not to go back for a second phase of development.

We also have much more space for practical activities. Last but by no means least; the children can get out and enjoy some fresh air all year round!

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

We use the space in all sorts of ways! The children love to go outside for Golden Time activities, phonics activities in the Sliding Lid Sand Pit, practical counting games, jumping on number mats and using number cones for addition on the All Weather Recreation Surface. They also use the outdoor area to draw around friends and label body parts… as well as gathering in the Octagonal Shelter for guided reading and story time.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

It is wonderful to be able to give the children the opportunity to use sand and the sliding lid means that it is protected from the elements. We also have much more space for practical activities. Last but by no means least; the children can get out and enjoy some fresh air all year round!
