Hochtief Facility Management UK Ltd, Cheshire

The Hochtief Facility Management UK Ltd office in Warrington wanted to develop their company nursery so that children of their employees would have a fun space where they could enjoy outdoor play. They tell us how their new play equipment helps bring children together and burn off excess energy.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

We wanted to develop a space for children of our employees to play. A lot of our staff have children and we know that it’s not always easy to find child minders or somewhere for them to go. Our nursery was in need of some new equipment to provide entertainment and a variety of ways to play.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

Playforce has a great range of equipment that customers can pick and choose from to create the perfect combination, working with their School Grounds Consultant. We just needed a couple of items to complete our nursery and make it more fun. With Playforce we didn’t have to have a complete playground – we could simply choose the equipment we wanted to incorporate to the outdoor space we already had available.

The parents at our office have said that the children really enjoy the Climbing Wall. It gives them the opportunity to develop their physical skills and burn off energy.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

We now have a bigger variety of play equipment available to the children of our employees. Our nursery can be a selling point to prospective staff and many take reassurance in the fact we have good outdoor play that is accessible to their children. It ensures that the children don’t feel as though they are simply playing in an office block courtyard, they are in a space that is designed just for them.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

The parents at our office have said that the children really enjoy the Climbing Wall. It gives them the opportunity to develop their physical skills and burn off energy. The 4 Way Ball Chute is a great way to get the children together and encourage them to socialise and cooperate. It boosts their confidence and their coordination skills.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?

At many company nurseries there may be different children using the space every day. This can make it daunting for some of the younger children so it’s important to include equipment that will encourage them to work together and act as an ice breaker.
