Why did you want to develop your playground?

Our old outdoor play area was beginning to look tired with its plain black surface. We wanted to develop our playground with a splash of colour, as well as introduce more music to the school. The Under 5s love making lots of musical noise so we wanted to create a space where they could do this without disturbing lessons.

How are we using the space to deliver outdoor learning & educational play?

The children are really enjoying the track and road markings on the playground and are always driving around it on their cars and scooters. The music panels have been a great success and we’ve spotted a few new musical maestros among the pupils. The mirror is always in high demand, the children love looking at their funny shaped reflections.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

The instruments have really improved the children’s musical skills, they love practising tunes at playtime that we have taught them in lessons. We’ve seen an improvement in the children’s gross motor skills and in their social skills. They are working together to find new and fun ways to use the equipment.

Can you share any best practice insights you’ve gained?

Poddely Sets are fantastic for schools that need some flexibility. They store away easily and can be transferred between the playground and classroom. The sets help teach early science skills with water play and introduce the ideas of cause and effect.
