Friars Primary Foundation School

Friars Primary Foundation School, in Southwark, wanted to transform their concrete outdoor space into something that would engage children in outdoor learning, active play and having lots and lots of fun.

This exciting new playground, worth £150,000, was designed and constructed by Playforce, and was made possible by boutique development company, Hambridge Homes, who purchased the caretakers house, providing additional funding for the school to undergo improvements. The caretakers house is set to be demolished to make way for eight stylish apartments and new school facilities.

Presented with the budget, and space to do something really special, Friars Primary Foundation School approached Playforce to work with them, and the children, to design a flexible and engaging outdoor space.

Emily Northin, Director of Marketing at Playforce explained: "Here at Playforce we're passionate about providing space for children to be active and to learn, outside. It was particularly great to work with Friars Primary Foundation School on producing a play space like this, in the middle of London. The school was keen to develop their outdoor space to combine play and learning with equipment that would encourage the children to get active. In particular, we were thrilled to be able to bring a bit of nature into the city, with the nature zone."

We are delighted with our new playground. Playforce has created a fun, bright and interactive space for the children to enjoy and Hambridge Homes have played a pivotal role as it would not have been possible had they not have purchased the old caretakers house.
Working together Playforce and Friars Primary Foundation School transformed the space from concrete plains to a wonderland of grassy play, with features including climbing ropes, tunnels, slides and an outdoor performance stage. The playground also includes a nature zone with a hexagonal viewing pond and a creative rainbow wetpour area.
