Djanogly Strelley Academy, Nottinghamshire

Djanogly Strelley Academy wanted to create more play space by increasing the overall size of their playground. Mr Tim Jeffs, Head of School, explains to us here how they worked with Playforce to achieve their dream space.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

We wanted to create more play space for our pupils at break time by increasing the overall size of our playground by using artificial grass surfacing. We also had very little physical play equipment on the main playground, and this is something that we wanted to address to keep our children active and this included installing some climbing structures to give the pupils an area for physical play.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

We liked the Play Turf artificial grass surface, which we have had installed in other areas of the school. Also, Playforce were able to source some climbing frames that I really liked which included some more interesting options than the standard range in the catalogue. These new climbing structures, combined with their competitive price, was what made Playforce stand out.

Children now have a specific area that they can use for physical play. They love climbing and exploring on the new equipment.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

The new area, at the minute, is used solely at break and lunch times for fun, enjoyment, and physical activity. The pupils absolutely love it!

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

Children now have a specific area that they can use for physical play. They love climbing and exploring on the new equipment.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?

We were expecting that over time the area might lose it's appeal, but it is still extremely popular with the children. We do however keep to a very tight rota to make sure that the equipment doesn’t have too many children on it at one time and become unsafe.
