Why did you want to develop your playground?
We knew that we wanted to make some changes to our playground but we didn’t have a lot of spare space to do it in. We wanted to develop our school grounds so that it would make better use of the room that we do have but would continue to inspire the children to take part in outdoor learning and play.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?
After looking at the Playforce brochure and website we could see that a lot of planning and experience was behind the designs. There were a lot of options available to us that would maximise our space and would be multi-functional to provide our pupils with lots of outdoor play. The team helped us choose the best combination for our grounds and showed us how the equipment could be modified to take up as little space as possible.

Having the option to move freely outdoors has given our children variety and excitement in their daily routine.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?
Our Stack Store has been the perfect way to tidy up equipment on the playground. It has room for all our loose equipment and the chalkboard doors double up as a platform for story telling and outdoor lessons. The Flow Wall and Magnetic Whiteboard make it easy to flow outdoors for classes and at play times they become the centre of attention.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?
Having the option to move freely outdoors has given our children variety and excitement in their daily routine. This has made them more motivated and inspired, the creative and imaginative skills they develop outside are reflected in the classroom too. They no longer want to stay indoors at play times because the outdoor space is spacious and flexible.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?
Even if schools think that they don’t have space to make any playground developments, there are ways to make outdoor play better. The little things can make the difference, like our Flow Wall being put on posts, so it’s important to find a supplier that is willing to think differently about the space and can design something innovative.
