Why did you want to develop your playground?
We had a number of aims:
• Create a smaller dedicated EYFS area which would be functional for continuous provision and give the school a wow factor for prospective families.
• Create a larger outdoor sports area.
• Create more green space as we have limited access to our school field.
• Create additional space for the children from Year 1 to Year 6 as the school had grown considerably in size over recent years.
• Create additional shelter for the children for sunny or rainy playtimes.
• Add much needed colour to our urban site.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?
Our consultant, Lizzy, had a can do attitude from our first meeting. She was able to visualize the complexity of our needs and came up with a great range of solutions. She worked with us on price to ensure that we achieved value for money. The computer generated sketches gave us a really clear idea of how the project would look on completion.

Playforce also offered expertise through a project manager who visited the site prior to installation to offer a practical approach to the project.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?
Our EYFS children have a dedicated area in which to play and learn while still retaining access to the larger yard. Our older children have enjoyed having a larger sports area and access to space they didn’t have previously (especially the mud kitchen and play house!)

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?
Children in Reception now have a more focused area in which to play and learn. The whole area is much safer and more aesthetically pleasing. The rest of the children in the school have a larger overall area and an extended and safer sports area to play in and take part in PE lessons.

How did the design deliver against your needs?
Our needs were discussed prior to the design, so they were fully met.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?
Start to plan the project as early as possible to ensure that timescales are achievable.
