Chorley St James Church of England Primary School

Mrs C Greenway, Head Teacher at Chorley St James' Church of England Primary School tells us about their Early Year’s Project.

''The school had an internal area which needed developing and a decision was made to develop it as an early year’s area. Lizzy from Playforce came down to site to gather measurements and give ideas. I found it useful to be open to suggestions and be flexible and listen to Playforce as they clearly have a wealth of design knowledge and know what works etc.

I also found it really helpful to gather the views of the early years team prior to this meeting to avoid resistance and to be able to share ideas. The reception teacher was at this initial meeting which was very useful as she had a clear vision and understanding of the play opportunities it could facilitate.''

''The plans which were produced were clear and bright. The children enjoyed looking at them ahead of the build.

From previous building work in school I was aware that time scales can fluctuate and this is often weather dependent. However clear lines of communication are really useful to allow the school to plan for the work; particularly if it is during the school term time. It allows schools to notify parents and to put risk assessments into place. A named person for any email correspondence is also essential.''

I am delighted with how our project has worked out. The areas have been transformed and Playforce have done a brilliant job. Mrs C Greenway, Head Teacher
''Schools will need a designated area for the builders to park, put skips and store their supplies on the school site. It is best if this is in just one area to minimize disruption. The contractors will work in line with school policy and practice.''
