Why did you want to develop your playground?

Our old playground was beginning to look a bit tired and we wanted to find a new and creative way to inspire our pupils to take part in more outdoor play. We decided to develop an outdoor space that would contain a range of play equipment to encourage active play and interactivity with the natural environment.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

Playforce is a company that really understands how children’s minds work. We could tell straight away that their equipment is designed to get children active, playing outdoors and having fun. The team was really helpful from the very first phone call, they talked us through all our options and didn’t stop working until they’d created the perfect playground for us.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

We’ve chosen equipment that will really get our pupils thinking with the natural environment as inspiration. With the Water World Discovery Pond, we’ve been able to take science lessons outdoors and give the children a hands-on experience with nature. The musical instruments are used in class and at playtimes, it means we can make as much noise as we want without disturbing others.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

Taking some of our lessons outdoors has really boosted the children’s productivity. Working first hand with the environment has helped them take in the lessons they are being taught and the fresh air fills them with energy. We’ve heard from parents that there has been an increase in children wanted to play outside after school, which we think is fantastic.

Can you share any best practice insights you have gained?

Whatever the aim of your playground development, its always important to have variety. Luckily Playforce’s equipment is flexible and can often be used in a number of different ways. We’ve made sure that our outdoor space can be used for work and play, ensuring that the children get a daily dose of sunshine no matter what’s on the timetable.
