Bevington Primary School

Bevington Primary School, W10, had a “bleak and bland” area that needed a major rethink, if the children were to be encouraged to play more freely, giving them challenges to improve their physical abilities. Outdoor Grounds Consultant Tom Dean tells us more.
Why did they want to develop their playground?
The school was really keen to develop their outdoor area to encourage more outdoor play and activity, in particular for those children without access to outdoor space at home. This meant providing a range of equipment so that there was something for everyone. A designated area for football and other sports was required for PE lessons but, also, to encourage the children to challenge themselves and develop physical literacy skills during break times we were asked to consider installed equipment and a chillout area.

The children have really enjoyed the new playground and are loving the changes. We’re very happy with the overall finish and are already thinking about how we can renovate our Key Stage 1 playground, with Playforce. Deputy Headteacher, Joanna Po
How are they using the space now, to build physical activity at the school?
In addition to installing a multi use games area with high end fencing, to help stop the ball going over into the rest of the play area too many times, we installed a Double Woodland Tower, Woodland Climber (including Monkey Walk, Rope Walk and Trapeze Swing) to offer lots of opportunities and variety for activities. In addition we added an inclusive wheelchair ramp to the garden chillout area. This has given great access to the space, so all the children can enjoy it as well as growing vegetables and plants.
We asked the school about their experience of working with Playforce?
Deputy Headteacher, Joanna Po told us:
“The children have really enjoyed the new playground and are loving the changes. We’re very happy with the overall finish and are already thinking about how we can renovate our Key Stage 1 playground, with Playforce.”
