Why did you want to develop your playground?
After previously developing our playground with Playforce, we wanted to make some additions to our outdoor space that would encourage our pupils to take part in more experiments, teamwork and exercise. We wanted the new development to help us dissolve the line between the classroom and the playground and enable staff and pupils to move between the outdoors and indoors easily and freely.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?
We have already worked with Playforce and we were really impressed with their experience and communication. They worked closely with the whole school to help us build on our previous development and turn it into something brand new and exciting. They knew exactly what we needed and have created something truly unique for our school.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?
The new playground development is a hub of activity. The Woodland Tower is a fantastic way to get the children active. It has a range of challenges and activities so they can develop their physical skills at their own pace and work together to find new ways to play. The Flow Wall adds a new dimension to science experiments and the Sandpits are great for enhancing discovery skills.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?
Our pupils adored the last development we did with Playforce and this one has inspired them even more. We’ve seen a huge improvement in cooperation and teamwork skills and the children love problem solving together to find the best ways to use the equipment. Adding variety to the day motivates staff and pupils, a breath of fresh air has done wonders.

Can you share any best practice insights you have gained?
Bridging that gap between the playground and the classroom has made lessons a brand new experience at Bedgrove and by taking more activities outdoors we are able to keep our pupils motivated throughout the day. Finding new ways to move freely between the two can make a huge difference to your typical school day.
