National Children’s Gardening Week 2019

24 May 2019

Let’s get our children gardening with National Children’s Gardening Week

You might be forgiven for thinking that RHS Chelsea was the biggest gardening event to take place in recent weeks… but you’re mistaken! This week is National Children’s Gardening Week. Running from 25th May to 2nd June  National Children’s Gardening Week celebrates the fun that gardens hold for kids. Best of all the week-long activities are supporting Greenfingers, a national charity dedicated to supporting children who spend time in hospices around the UK by creating inspiring gardens for them to relax in and enjoy.

Those of you that remember our work with hospices as part of last year’s Nature Month will know that this is a subject very close to our hearts. And the National Children’s Gardening Week website has loads of ways you can get involved and working in your gardens. Some of our favourites include:

But, as you know, we’re passionate about getting children outside and growing their own food - understanding where it all comes from and what it takes to make it. That’s why we particularly like the suggestions for growing a vegetable picnic, pea shoot sandwiches and even sewing your initials in salad seeds (and watching it grow into lunch).  We think they’d work particularly well in one of our raised beds, surrounded by seating. How about our Fun Grow Planter Bed (L Shaped) or our Fun Grow Seating Planter? And don’t forget, our Ready-to-Play range has loads of gardening and growing equipment for little hands, that can be delivered straight to you and is ready to go!
