James, your Outdoor Grounds Consultant
A background in educational psychology (and a job working in the Disney Store) couldn’t have prepared me better for my role at Playforce! I have acquired lots of experience working with different settings and never tire of transforming outdoor spaces for children to enjoy all year round. The first time I saw children playing on a playground I had designed was amazing – knowing the children are having fun, as a result of what we’ve done, is what I call job satisfaction! I also have a soft spot for our new innovation, Poddely. In my role as Poddely Manager I conduct training to help practitioners deliver curriculum goals outdoors and to inspire them to reap the benefits of outdoor play.
What is the best thing about my region?
There is such diversity in the rural and urban areas I visit. Some schools have 40 pupils and others 500; the range of challenges this presents ensures I continuously expand my knowledge and have plenty of experience to draw upon.
What is my top tip?
Consult the children – involve the school council. They are the ultimate end users and they have wonderful ideas!
What is my favourite outdoor memory?
As a big rugby fan, my favourite outdoor memories at school involved mini games of rugby up and down the playground at lunchtimes. I once scored 11 tries during a lunch break and to cap it off we also had jam roly poly for pudding!
