Bromley Heath Primary School
Everyone was very excited to see Poddely. It’s something totally different than we’ve ever had before and the ease of using it means that the children were able to just construct what they wanted to and use it in lots of different ways.
It’s been really easy to incorporate into different lessons and subject areas. We’ve used it to link with literacy with making dens – that was a really successful outcome because we got them writing instructions for each other. We’ve also used it in maths lessons – where we set the children challenges to make 3D shapes… and also in science lessons – being able to use water to move things from one place to another.
With the lessons we tend to challenge the children with a particular outcome that we want and the children work in teams – which promotes their problem solving skills during lessons. During free-play we’ve found that they’ve used it in slightly different ways. They’ve tended to build courses and challenge themselves to do different things. In lessons we’ve had the least able working with the most able and we’ve found that it was often the least able children that had the leadership skills to put things together. And the communication between them – discussing and supporting at they put things together – has been really helpful.
There’s enough to stretch the gifted and talented. Although we haven’t used it in that way yet we can see the opportunities that it presents, particularly with problem solving.
I think that Poddely is really flexible – in fact it’s fantastic!
