Playground Equipment makes Learning Fun at Westbury Leigh School
Happy children learn more according to one Wiltshire head teacher and, to prove a point, exciting new playground equipment has been fitted at her school.
Pupils at Westbury Leigh Primary School, Westbury, now have a timber trail to exercise their minds and bodies during play times - keeping them happy and making learning part of the fun.
Head teacher, Mary Murray, said: "I believe that happy children learn and bored children misbehave. This timber trail helps maintain their positive behaviour and so they learn because they are happy. They absolutely love it and it's used all the time."
The timber trail was installed by Playforce the country's leading provider of school playground equipment. It is the third time the Wiltshire-based company has been called in to create a stimulating outdoor playground for the Westbury Leigh pupils.
Money for the equipment was raised from school funds and from a sponsored read organised by the PTA. It was decided to spend the money on a timber trail and all the children were asked to help design it.
Armed with pictures of Playforce obstacles, the school council members showed them to their classmates and organised a vote, which meant every one of the 400 pupils had a chance to express their preference. The end result was a balance beam, stepping posts, balance weaver and tyre twister.
The new equipment has also played an important part in Westbury Leigh school having its 'Healthy Schools Status' renewed.
