Nursey Nurtures Health Lifestyle Through Timber Trail at Tudhoe Nursery
Exercise and healthy living are a priority at County Durham’s Tudhoe Nursery so staff have had
a challenging and stimulating adventure timber trail installed in the outdoor playground.
Manager of the Spennymoor-based nursery, Sandra Heslop, said the benefits provided by the new playground equipment have been fantastic.
The timber trail was originally intended for the older children - the three and four year olds - but the nursery offers day care for children from as young as six weeks old and many of the much younger children are also taking advantage of the obstacles.
Mrs Heslop explained that because of the way the playground equipment has been designed the children can either tackle every obstacle in the timber trail or choose just one or more pieces to stretch themselves.
"The adventure timber trail is everything we wanted and more. We chose a Wiltshire-based company, Playforce, to create and install the playground equipment and every member of the team was fantastic," said Mrs Heslop.
"But it wasn't just the playground equipment that was brilliant, the installers were too. They arrived early one morning with a brand new piece of drilling equipment. The installers were excited about it and thought the children would be too so they waited until the children arrived before using it so the children could watch, it was a great experience."
Playforce, an award-winning company, is recognised for designing school playground equipment that stimulates the imagination as well as exercising little bodies and developing physical ability and social skills.
"Our children are still getting to grips with the challenges the timber trail creates but they are getting more and more confident on it and we can't wait to see the role play developing," said Mrs Heslop.
She added that every member of the nursery is so impressed she has just placed another order with Playforce, this time for maze seating and a log forest designed specifically for role-play activities.
