Outdoor classroom has added an extra dimension to learning and living at Longfurlong Primary School Playground
New Outdoor Classroom and walk to school shelter in school playground at Longfurlong Primary School
Long Furlong Primary School Headteacher, Natasha Austin had been awarded a Travel Plan Grant to encourage parents to walk their children to school.
As she explains, “Although the school is only 14 years old and we’re very fortunate to have such lovely premises, the main school playground was severely lacking in shelter from the elements. We also wanted an outdoor area for the children to be able to use as a classroom during curriculum time.”
After meeting with our School Grounds Consultant, Sam Flatman, a design was agreed and a quote with plans and a schedule was prepared. The school were delighted with these and the project could now begin.
“Our experience of Playforce has been extremely positive; everything was done with in the deadlines agreed, excellent communication ensured that we knew what was happening and all those involved with the company- from those in the office to the installers on site – all were a pleasure to deal with.”
So thanks to Sam listening to the specific requirements of the school they were able to meet all their original objectives with as little disruption as possible, Natasha concludes;
“Despite the disappointing summer this year, the outdoor classroom - shelter has had plenty of use. During breaktimes the children have somewhere quiet to sit where they can eat their snack or enjoy their drinks. Parents can huddle beneath it if the weather is bad whilst waiting to collect children after school.
However, probably the most enjoyable part for the children is that they can be taken outside for lessons: sketching, listening to stories and doing science experiments
