Playtimes have been re-invented following new Playground Equipment at Haydon Abbey Combined School

Haydon Abbey Combined School in Aylesbury is an up and coming school in Buckinghamshire, which has recently invested an enormous amount of effort on improving the interior of its buildings.

Unfortunately lack of expertise had left its school playground tired, dull, and in real need of a helping hand.

The school turned to Playforce, an award winning provider of school playground design.  ‘Making playtime fun’ is the goal, which is achieved through careful consultation with schools and local authorities, ensuring that school playgrounds aid growth whilst allowing children to express themselves safely and creatively through the value of play.

Kate Smith of Haydon Abbey explained:  “It took us years of careful saving and wise spending to bring the inside up to scratch but this had meant that the outside had been neglected…through careful management we were able to put aside a good budget to transform the school playgrounds.’

Playforce were invited to the school to meet with teachers and children to view the school playground and discuss how to transform the old tarmac playground into a fun and challenging play environment.

Children at Haydon Abbey explained that ‘All the boys were playing football everywhere and sometimes you felt scared that you were going to be hit by a ball.’

Playforce designed an environment to excite and included everyone, using a variety of climbing equipment and properly defining the football pitch to keep the potential David Beckham’s playing in safety!  Swinging logs and a climbing wall traverse entertain the children whilst developing their reactive and balancing skills, and the stage and rubber step posts encourage free play, allowing imaginations to run riot!

Following the their new playground design, delighted school children had this to say:

‘Football is now in one place and this makes me feel safer and happier’

‘I love playing pirates and games on the climbing equipment with my mates.’

‘I like the stage as we can play dens and bases, some of girls like to do singing and dancing competitions on it.’

The new play equipment is so popular that the Haydon Abbey has devised a system for rewarding good deeds - each Friday the winner has full use of the school playground for their class!

This playground design really helps these children to stay fit and healthy as well as exciting their imaginations and helping them to build social skills.
