Challenging and Exciting Outdoor Playground Activity Zone for Dulwich College Prepartory School
An empty tarmac-covered outdoor playground has been transformed into a colourful, exciting and challenging activity zone for the boys of Dulwich College Prep.
The school, based in Dulwich South East London, called in Playforce, the premier provider of playground equipment, to design and fit the activity zone. The general opinion amongst pupils and staff is: "It's brilliant."
"It really is fantastic," said Emma Adriano, the teacher responsible for making the project happen. "The children are really into it. We have six classes who use it and because it is so popular we have had to draw up a rota so they all have a fair chance of getting a turn."
Playforce consultant, Fran Brown, explained that when she visited the school, she was shown the area she was to develop and asked to create an exciting challenge for the boys to stretch them physically and mentally.
Fran said: "The first thing I noticed was that it definitely needed some colour to make it fun. I decided to choose outdoor play equipment that would not only challenge the children, but would give them the opportunity to develop balance, co-ordination and upper body strength as well as overall physical fitness."
The finished activity zone has a net climber with pull-up wall for co-ordination and upper body strength; a trapeze swing with rubber step posts, again for upper body strength; a net traverse for balance and co-ordination as well as imaginative play; a rock and roll log for balance, upper body strength and co-operative play; swinging logs for co-ordination and upper body strength and a climbing wall, again for upper body strength. The all-weather surface is red and blue and made of spongy rubber for safety.
