Children’s Wishes Come True with New Timber Trail at All Saints CE Primary.
When the children of All Saints CE Primary School in Coalville, Leicestershire, were asked to write their school wish list, the number one request from the 160 pupils was ‘a new playground’.
The school, which is situated on the edge of a former coal mining town, had a dull and flat outdoor playground area, with no playground equipment to encourage the value of play.
After consultation with staff and school governors, Head Teacher Debbie May called in Playforce, the UK’s market leader in school playground equipment and playground design to challenge and excite the children.
“We wanted to improve the quality of the learning environment to develop pupil responsibility and social skills” Debbie said, “We worked hard to raise the funds, boosting the budget with a church charity bid and a donation by the PTA”.
Playforce School Grounds Consultant Fran Brown visited All Saints to discuss how to get the best result for the school. She drew up a plan for a timber trail that would allow the children to play freely whilst encouraging co-operative skills - the rock and roll log offers an interactive challenge as the log rocks from side to side the children have to adjust their stance continually to stay upright. The more children use it at once the more unpredictable the movement of the log becomes, and the more fun it becomes!

Now, as delighted children scramble and jump around, Debbie says “The children really enjoy the differing types of physical activity. They think its brilliant and keep saying ‘Thank you!’
