We all know the value of inspirational figures in children’s lives – from primary school teachers, parents, friends and, with the Commonwealth Games and FIFA World Cup fast approaching, sporting heroes.

That’s why we’re launching a competition for you to win a visit from one of the inspirational Youth Sport Trust Athlete Mentors. Current or former international athletes from a range of sports, they have all been trained to deliver inspirational messages to young people that will support them with their own life experiences and many have also overcome their own challenges along the way such as bullying, dyslexia, exclusion or living with a disability.

How to enter

Simply ask some of your pupils to draw, write about or even create a sculpture of a sporting hero. It could be a drawing or painting of their favourite Olympic athlete, a poem about a sporty family member or, if you’re feeling brave, a sculpture of their favourite teacher in a PE lesson or after school club! We’re looking for examples of where children have been inspired to get involved in sport or simply have fun being active.

Then, simply scan or take a picture of your entries and email them to Emily Northin, along with the following information:
• Your name, contact telephone number and email address
• Your school name and address
• A brief description helping us to identify your entries and what each represents

Alternatively, you can pop your entries into the post for the attention of Emily Northin to the following address:
Playforce Ltd
1 Pegasus Way
Bowerhill Industrial Estate
Melksham
Wiltshire
SN12 6TR

The winner will be chosen by our friends at Youth Sport Trust, and any school or children’s names will be removed to ensure the process is fair.

The closing date for entries is Friday 13th June, and the winner will be announced the following week.

About the prize

The prize will include one visit by an athlete mentor at your school, and will last around 4 hours. There are various ways you can opt to use this visit, from attending a sports event, to taking PE lessons or running workshops with children or staff. If you are chosen as the lucky winner of the prize, we will contact you to discuss how you’d like to use your visit and help to arrange this for you.

The small print
The competition is open to schools with primary age pupils in England and Wales. Entries must be submitted by Friday 13th June, and the winning school will be announced during the week commencing 16th June. By entering you are also giving your permission for us to publish your entries on our website, social media platforms and other marketing material to promote the competition. Please let us know if you would not be happy for us to do this. Children’s full names will not be published, but entries will be associated with the relevant school for the purposes of announcing the winner. There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit, and during judging the names of the school and children will be removed to ensure a fair result!
