The Whod A Thought It Pub

The Who’d A Thought It pub, in Lockeridge near Marlborough in Wiltshire, is part of a national pub chain.  With a new business partner on board to run it the decision was taken that this popular pub was in need of a major refresh both inside and out.

The client wanted to make this pub even more child-friendly with a new play area that could be used to encourage families to spend longer enjoying the refurbished facilities -  even using the Who’d A Thought It as a place for family meals and ‘get togethers’.

Playforce was fantastic. Their commitment to making sure we got what we needed, even when we were going back and forth with ideas, was impressive.

When they approached Playforce they had lots of ideas, including installing a large climbing unit and swings, that would be suitable for children under ten.  We got to work at the beginning of July so that their outdoor area would be in top-shape for the summer (and busy little hands and feet).

Following several consultations with our outdoor grounds experts, we put forward some initial designs.  These were refined and developed, over several weeks, with our consultants putting forward suggestions and ideas that were tailored to the space and people using it.

The new play area was open in time for the busy summer period and, so far, everyone seems very excited by it.
Norman Taylor, who led the project for the pub, said: “Playforce was fantastic.  Their commitment to making sure we got what we needed, even when we were going back and forth with ideas, was impressive.  Nothing was too much difficulty.  Although this scheme was done as part of a larger refurbishment we’ve already seen a noticeable improvement in overall income through this pub.  In fact, the complete refurbishment programme has generated around three times the previous summer income.  Whilst we can’t say what proportion of this is down to the improved play area, it’s certainly made a big difference”.
