Rainbow St Peters Pre-School, Yorkshire

Finding a way to encourage more outdoor play without fixed playground equipment can be a challenge but Rainbow St Peters Pre-School tells us how their new Poddely set has broken the barrier between the classroom and the great outdoors.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

Free flow play is becoming an increasingly important part of the school curriculum and, before now, we didn’t have the equipment and inspiration to incorporate it into our daily routine quickly and efficiently. We wanted to find a way to encourage regular free flow play without needed to invest in static playground equipment. Poddely sets from Playforce ticked all the boxes.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

Playforce’s passion and enthusiasm for getting children outside and having fun was something that immediately caught our eye. They were able to talk through possible free flow options with us until we found the perfect solution. The Poddely set provides us with everything we need to encourage free flow play in school but doesn’t require us to spend hours putting it together.

We’ve seen great improvements across the board. There are unlimited ways that the set can be used so it has really helped develop the children’s puzzle solving and discovery skills.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

The Poddely set is brought out at any occasion we want to encourage our pupils to move freely between the classroom and the playground. The ease of unpacking the set means that we can carry out educational play whenever and wherever we feel like it. We’ve been working on ways to incorporate it into lessons and then at playtimes the children are free to unleash their imaginations.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

We’ve seen great improvements across the board. There are unlimited ways that the set can be used so it has really helped develop the children’s puzzle solving and discovery skills. Being able to move into the playground at any point means that we can make the most of the good weather and infuse our school day with some fresh air.

Can you share any best practice insights you have gained?

While fixed equipment in playgrounds is fantastic for exercise, a Poddely set gives your school the chance to promote creativity and intuition. Not all schools have space for a playground development so this is a great way to encourage more free flow play and time spent outdoors.
