Why did you want to develop your playground?
We wanted to create a space for our pupils that would be unique, imaginative and fun. We decided to develop our playground so that we could use it for music lessons and to encourage creative play. A new outdoor space would add variety to our school day and allow our pupils to move more freely between the classroom and the playground.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?
Our main priority was to find play equipment that was innovative and different, something that would make us stand out from other schools. Playforce was able to offer us exactly that. The range of equipment available can be combined to suit any school’s needs or desires. We were able to pick and choose the equipment that would suit our school space and pupils perfectly.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?
The musical panels we have installed in our playground are brilliant for musical and performance activities. The children can make as much noise as they like without disturbing other classes. Having the instruments outside means that they can take the tunes that they learn in lessons back into the playground to practice at play times. Our railway equipment and Woodland Towers inspires creative and imaginative play, we love to see what new ways the children find to use it.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?
Being given the flexibility and responsibility to play on the new equipment has unleashed their imaginations and personalities. They work together to find new ways to play and are developing a range of physical and social skills. They are inspired by the outdoors and this boost transfers into their other lessons in the classroom.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?
It’s important to get equipment that satisfies the requirements of the curriculum but it’s just as important, if not more so, to make sure that it will inspire the children and be fun. We tried to choose equipment that could be used in lessons and play times, giving our pupils choice and challenges.
