Hanborough Manor CE School, Oxfordshire

Headteacher Sarah Kerswell explains how Playforce helped Hanborough Manor CE School to encourage pupils to access play resources independently and learn new skills.

Why did you want to develop your playground?

Before our recent installment from Playforce, our outdoor space did not allow the children the opportunity to fully explore the outside space. We also wanted to have somewhere for the children to dig, play with water, grow things and be able to access resources more independently, to make the most of our environment.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

We have used Playforce in the past and therefore knew that they provided a high quality service with well-made equipment. We also felt that that our sales consultant listened to our needs and was very accommodating to our ideas. We felt assured that what Playforce could provide was in our best interests, and we were not disappointed with the proposed plans!

the children use the outdoor space in a more imaginative way.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

The children are enjoying using the large Chalk Boards to develop their early writing skills, and this has of course transferred to the classroom. However, perhaps more importantly, the children are also using the large Play Stores to access the resources themselves. We believe this encourages a more independent playtime, giving the children even more opportunities to develop their interpersonal skills, imagination and work together.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

By far the biggest benefit we have noticed is that the children use the outdoor space in a more imaginative way. This is great to keep boredom at bay, as the children create their own mini adventures daily and are enthusiastic about coming to school, to play and to learn.
