Cookworthy

TCL teamed up with Barratt Homes and Plymouth Community Homes to design, supply and install three exciting new play areas at Cookworthy, part of a £129m regeneration development of over 1000 homes and a new public open space on Cookworthy Green, Plymouth. The green, on the doorstep of the new homes, aimed to include gravel paths, wildflower meadows, open grass areas and new play areas.

Our TCL Group colleagues, TCL were asked to assist in the project  due to their experience in delivering multi-service works. Because of their design capability and use of their own supplier, TCL’s teams set out to design, supply and install three new play areas for the local children.

Plymouth City Council carried out a survey to establish the local community’s priority for the development of their public open space. Our team then produced six 3D designs based on the information provided from the survey and the designs were to be used for public consultation. The final design consisted of three play areas: an under 8’s area, an over 8’s areas and a multi-use games area (MUGA).

The park looks great! It will be here for a long time and will be a place where children can come with their friends to have fun in a safe environment. Nick Jackson, Director of Business Services and Development, Plymouth Community Homes

The start date for the installation was delayed due to unexpected drainage discovered beneath the public open space and works couldn’t begin until the area was clear and this shortened the programme for delivery.  In order to meet the deadline, we deployed an extra team to ensure that the completion date was met without breaching the budget. Being part of the TCL Group, we were able to utilise our experience in providing works of this scope and call on our in-house network of teams in deliver the project on this shortened timescale.
