Why did you want to develop your playground?
Our outdoor area was tired and it was getting unsafe due to the age of the equipment. It also lacked good quality resources and learning opportunities that can’t be provided indoors.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?
Lizzy, her plans and team. Listening to my ideas, Lizzy took my pictures and created something better than I could have imagined. She understood Early Years and the importance of areas, and the Playforce team created a really cohesive plan that flowed from one area to another. This made Playforce stand out from the others.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?
We have a huge green space that is soft when jumped on or when one falls over, and I have found the children use this in ways I never imagined. We now have areas of provision that are easily distinguishable, and everyone that walks out there just loves it. The bespoke sandpit, is one of the most popular areas thus far.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?
The learning is focused, they have resources that they never had before (e.g. our previous indoor sandpit wasn’t something they could get into, unlike outside where it’s like a beach). The surfacing means the children can run around without shoes on and receive a sensory experience from it. There are opportunities for reading, writing, maths, and all the other strands of EYFS. The flow wall is brilliant, as is the mud kitchen!

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?
Don’t be too quick to fill the entire space. Doing in two parts has meant I can watch the children and see how they are using the space.
