School Sport Matters
Gareth A Davies writes that the Public Accounts Committee has reported an entire generation of primary-school children are heading towards serious health problems in later life.
Davies mentions the Channel 4 series Ian Wright’s Unfit Kids and says that following on from this a competition devised by the company Fit for Sport will be launched this month to find the fittest school in the UK.
Next Generation Clubs is the title sponsor of this initiative to help schools re-engage in PE. The prize for the most improved school is £10,000 in sports equipment.
Davies also reminds us of the work of Planet Sport, another private business, which provides sports coaches to assist in the delivery of sport and PE in state schools. He says private companies have become a necessary part of the delivery of sport and PE in school.
