Pupils given pedometers to fight obesity
The above papers pick up on this story, first mentioned in the Telegraph yesterday. The Department of Health yesterday announced a £494,000 scheme, whereby thousands of children in deprived areas are to be given pedometers to encourage them to walk more, improve their fitness and keep their weight down.
45,000 pedometers will be handed out to primary school children in 250 schools following success in a pilot project. Most children in the pilot project called Schools on the Move said the pedometers had helped them increase their interest in physical activity.
