Matilda or Charlie, Danny or James? Who will be your Roald Dahl hero this Friday? Schools and libraries across the country are getting excited today for this year’s Dahlicious Dress Up Day. This fun annual day sees thousands of children, parents, teachers and school staff pay £1.00 to dress up as their favourite Dahl characters, all in aid of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. The charity raises funds to provide specialist nursing care and family grants for children living with serious, rare and undiagnosed conditions.
Good reasons to get involved
There are plenty of good reasons for primary schools to get involved – not least the FUN you’ll have seeing children and staff dressed as Oompa Loompas, Witches and Enormous Crocodiles, all for a great cause. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the much-loved books of one of our favourite children’s writers and the day provides a fantastic focus for literacy and creative skills whilst raising much-needed funds that will make a difference to children’s lives. From reading and story-telling, to costume design and performance, it’s easy to get involved with curriculum-linked activities.
